"Swan Pond"'s Story

Swan Pond will be installed this week at WFBH Davie Medical Center, and is dedicated to my mom for two special reasons. One, from my birth she passed on her love of words, sentences, paragraphs, chapters and books. She never said no when I asked her to read me an enchanting story--especially Make Way for the Ducklings. Nor would she deny me the pleasure of checking out my weekly, wobbling stack of library books higher than my head. She never let on that she knew perfectly well I had a flashlight hidden under my covers to read James Michener into the wee hours of the night. Her gift is one I have opened over and over throughout my life, and then passed the gift on to my own babes, and now another generation of sweet ones. The lovingly worn and tattered pages of Robert Lewis Stevenson’s A Child's Garden of Verses testify to this. Second, I dedicate this healing-bound painting to my mom because she continues to valiantly fight her own fifteen-year battle with cancer. Brave, my mom is. This painting represents the will to journey on and to find beauty and family in the midst of battle. Carry on, Mom. I love you. ( I have a great book for you to borrow too.)
